Not-so-sweet Chocolate Cake

Like chocolate cake that’s not tooooo chocolaty? Not too sweet? This is a recipe for a light chocolate cake that doesn’t give you an overdose of sweetness.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup plain flour

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 tbsp cocoa

  • 4 oz (½ cup) butter

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 1½ tsp baking powder

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180C (350F).
  • Mix flour, cocoa and baking powder in a bowl.
  • In a small bowl, beat the eggs. Set aside.
  • In a third bowl beat the softened butter and sugar together until creamy.
  • Add the eggs and beat well.
  • Add the dry ingredients and mix until you get a smooth batter. Do not over beat.
  • Pour the batter into a greased baking pan and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Cool on a wire rack.

Notes

  • If making cupcakes, change baking time to 20 minutes.
